WHAT ARE YOU GOOD FOR?"Importance of matching aptitude with interest"

Many of us are interested in a particular career because we get glamorised by it.  If someone we know (or admire) seems to have made it big in some field, we have an intense desire to follow it.  What we need to ask ourselves is whether our aptitude matches our interests (aptitude being the potential to pick up skills and do well in that particular area).  While one cannot actually say whether we do well in any specific field, until we have actually got into it, we can definitely evaluate whether we have the qualities which show a strong potential.

For example, if one wants to become a software professional, he should ask himself what are the qualities required to do well in that field.  The basic qualities would be: a strong left brain i.e. mathe-logical thinking, good concentration power preferably an introvert nature which does not allow distractions a curious mind which has the habit of exploring a habit of upgrading oneself, since technology changes fast in computers reasonable typing knowledge, etc. If one is strong in these areas, one can always pick up the necessary knowledge and skills in software.

The next step would be meeting people from the field and finding out what courses they went through, and difficulty in getting admissions, the amount of hard work required, the financial implications, etc.

The third step would be mapping out one's own chart of moving step by step towards that career, preparing oneself for whatever the requirements are at each step. If one were to follow these directions, the goal is almost certain, and one would not only be successful, but very happy working.
